Megan and Dani had a special treat up their sleeve for us tonight. Sevilla is known for Flamenco, so we went to a small theater to experience it together. The show consisted of a guitar player who was fantastico...his fingers moved like video in fast forward. There was also a singer, an older woman who sang with deep passion. Even Meg had trouble understanding WHAT she was singing about, but it really didn't make the show less impactful. Her only instrument was her hands, which she clapped alternately softly and very LOUDLY. It was all deliberate and controlled. Finally the Flamenco dancer appeared, expressing passion with every part of her body, just as the others. She snapped her fingers so loudly that at first we thought she was using catanettesxxxxx. And her feet matched the speed-of-light rythym of the guitarist. The stage was small but the show was bigger than life!
Dinner was at a restaurant/bar honoring Mother Mary. The irony of a bar honoring a religious figure was odd to me, but it seems to be part of the culture here. We've given up trying to stick to our vegetarian diet here. There would just be so little to eat.
We didn't leave until the restaurant closed and we had to! The kids were so great to push John home before heading back to their place.
