Valley of Fire

After the initial scare we made it to Las Vegas without a problem. Picked up the rental and found we had a flat as we were driving out! Not exactly confidence building. Switched cars and we were on our way. We decided to leave the boring interstate behind and take the scenic route to the Valley of Fire. The drive was half the fun as we watched the landscape change around every bend in the road. Sandy hills, shear rugged cliffs, brilliant red rocks. It was sensory overload of the natural kind. The road was beautifully maintained and virtually empty for the 50 mile drive. We stopped whenever the spirit moved us...or when it was time to grab a Geocache! Yep, I can now add Nevada to my caching collection. Hoping to report one in Arizona by the end of today.

Though we have seen the strip from a distance, we are saving that part of the fun for tomorrow when Chris and Sara come. Right now it's off to the Hoover Dam.
