More Vanderbilt Benevolence
I have noted my admiration for the Vanderbilt family. This is another example. Edith V. wanted to help the children of the workers at Biltmore, and noted the wonderful weaving technique from the area so she opened the Homespun Shop. The young men and women learned a trade and Asheville became world-renowned for fine wool cloth and wooden carvings. Presidents and their wives wore clothes made from the fabric which continued being produced until 1981.
