Sunset Crater Area

I wasn't too excited about Sunset Crater because you can't really see into it...unless you are in a plane. But the area surrounding the inactive volcano was darkly stunning. Many types of vegetation seem to thrive in this lava field that extents for miles and miles.

This is a frozen in time lava flow. These glistening black hunks are huge...check out the size of the cars at the top of the photo. It looked a little like someone took a huge bulldozer to an asphalt parking lot.

Towering Ponderosa pine happily growing the lava field (John is under the tree).
