Mayaguez

Dinner at a restaurant close to our hotel for the night (a Howard Johnson's that used to be a monastery). The pork postre (translates "cake"), wasn't very good, but the rest was tasty. Plantains seem to be a stable of their diet here. Mashed, fried, fried then mashed, sweet and savory. A very popular dish is mofongo, where the plantains are cooked and mashed then formed into a little bowl and filled with meat (think mashed potato valley filled with gravy). I bet their potassium levels are great! But other than a salad and green peppers the only green to eat is green plantains!
